GALA TOWN STAR NFT UPDATE – 01/19/2022

Hey Fellow Town Stars!

Over the weekend, we had some watchful eyes on some of the NFTs we’ve heard have been trading around. This type of event happening allows Gala with a great opportunity to surface some of the technology that supports keeping play fair on the Town Star competitive servers and play-2-earn servers. I’m sure you’ve all heard of our Watchdog! He’s watching over your Town and making sure it follows the rules.

We have been diligently working on stopping the cheaters of Town Star. In order to reinforce the anti-cheating system we needed to pause token minting for a short time.

This effects both GALA and TOWN.

The entire process should take less than 24 hours, but we’ll keep you posted.

We can go into a tiny bit of detail for what this issue was and how it is being dealt with.

Essentially, it works like this. There is a cool-down period applied to NFTs being that are moved.

Well, that cool-down was 24 hours +/- X hours (think X=8) – but I am not 100% on that.

This made it hard to predict exactly when you needed to have it in the account to claim the daily rewards. Long story short – Because it basically just looked back on the indexer to see whether the account making the claim had that NFT at that time.

The problem was that if you moved it around enough, you MIGHT luck out into having it look at a time when it WAS there.

So, what this person was doing was transferring it alllllll over the place, and attempting to claim again and again and again…and failing a LOT of the time, but not ALL of the time. So it was worth it to keep trying for them. They were accomplishing this all with a group of accounts and a pool of collections.

Appropriate account has been taken and Gala has closed the hell out of that loophole.

Not to go into this TOO deeply, but Gala doesn’t think that they were flooding the market as their actual claims weren’t huge….but rather that people THOUGHT they were.
